SGDQ 2016 - Speedrunning Exhibition

It's that time of year again! The biannual video game speed run charity has been held since 2010 raising money for Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders. With all proceeds going to a great cause, viewers are encouraged to donate for the cause with incentives for special speed run circumstances, T-Shirts, copies of games and the like. Every 6 months the communities at Speed Demos Archive, Speed Run Live and the viewers manage to raise $1,000,000 over a span of a week.

Speedrunning is an incredibly unique and impressive display of dedication and skill and the fact the community has been able to harness it to literally save lives is nothing short of incredible. Despite not speed running anything personally outside of a short 6 month obsession with running "Ape Escape", I take an insane amount of pride in the gaming community around the GDQs, and have a ton of respect for speed runners. (You da man Connor). If you've never watched a GDQ event I recommend checking out the schedule and watching a game you're interested in. In a strange way it's beautiful to watch your favorite game get picked apart by some incredible minds. Check back later in the week for a rundown on some of the best runs of the event!
